Community Pages  »  The Recreation Field Project

It has been a few years in the making but this week saw the begining of the work to create a new football and recreation field in Gainford.

This page will be used over the next few weeks to keep residents up to date with the work. In the next couple of days the first photo's of the work will be published that cover the Northern boundary fence work and early preperation for ploughing and removing stones.

Before the contractors came in to plough up the field we were required to fence the Northern boundary.  It had been assessed that the best access point for the contractors was the top end of the field.  They would remove the small piece of older fence to allow entry. On completion the new fence would be extended to close the gap.

The council is aware that along the track and down by the cemetery is a popular walk.  We have placed a style type gate at the far end to allow this to continue.  We would ask the residents refrain from taking their dogs on to the field and stick to the path.

7 October

I visited the site this morning on a beautiful autumn morning. Things are really moving on, with the field ploughed and ready for stone picking and the installation of the drainage. See the latest pictures below.

18 October

The heavy rain has prevented work being done this week on the installation of the drainage system. The area is very boggy in parts. We will have to see what next week brings.......

5 November

Due to the ground being saturated the council has decided to delay any further work until the spring. The drainage will be completed and then seeding will take place in April.
